Who can sign up for The Select: Mission 1114?

The Select: Mission 1114 is designed for parents with tweens, 11-14 years old*, to strengthen parent-child bonds and build a strong foundation for the teenage years.

*Equivalent to academic year Primary 5 to Secondary 2 in 2021.

My child is not within the recommended age group of 11-14 years old. Can we participate?

The event seeks to empower you, the parent, to be a safe place and be present for your child through the tween-teen transition. Hence, the programme is designed to meet the needs of tweens, 11-14 years old.

For children under 11 years old, you may wish to wait till your child is older so that he or she may better engage and experience the full benefits of the programme.

Can I sign up for my whole family to participate together?

Every child is unique, and every parent-child relationship is special. This one-on-one event allows you to establish that significant relationship with your child and give him or her your undivided attention.

If you have more than one child in the age bracket (11-14 years old), you and your spouse can register for the event separately, with one child each. Do make plans to participate in the programme separately (e.g. in separate rooms for the 11.14am online segment) so that it will be a unique experience for each child.

Can someone else attend in place of parents?

The programme is built on parent-child dynamics and the parental role in a child's life.

If a parent is unable to attend with the child, the child's guardian or close adult/family member who is assuming the parental role could participate in the event with him or her.

Since I may progress at my own pace for this event, can I do it on another day?

The 11.14am online segment on 11 Dec is a critical component of the day's mission. This will take place synchronously on Zoom and we will provide additional resources and tools necessary for the mission. Hence, it is not possible for you to participate in the event on a different day.

How would this event be affected by COVID restrictions and advisories?

The event will adhere to the advisories at the time of the event. The mission involves interactions between parent and child only, and you are not required to interact physically with other participants or the organisers of this event.

Do we have to be fully vaccinated to participate in the event?

You do not need to be fully vaccinated to participate in the mission. We will suggest alternatives should vaccination status affect your participation and experience of the programme.

Will I be able to cancel my registration after signing up?

We encourage you to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that your (and your child's) schedule is clear for The Select: Mission 1114. There will be no refunds* for cancellations.

Requests for adjustment/transfer of registration will be accepted until 14 days before the start of the event (i.e. Fri, 26 Nov 2021). Please email Alycia at [email protected].

*The Organiser reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort, however, will be made to inform participants as soon as possible of the change. For cancellation of event by the Organiser, fees  will be refunded in full.

How will I receive the Mission Kit?

Your Mission Kit will be posted to your mailing address.  In addition, a Mission e-Guide will be emailed to you one week before the event. Keep a lookout for it as the e-Guide will prepare you for the mission!

We’ve all heard it before:

The first step is always the hardest.

We've also all had hard and difficult times at home. Sometimes these include navigating through uncomfortable disagreements and conflicts, apologising to a parent or sibling, asking for help or forgiveness, feeling alone while in the company of family members or simply needing a shoulder to cry on.

While every family has its own unique traits and quirks, you can be the change that your family needs.

This Youth Day, remember that one step is all it takes to make a change; one step is all it takes to build closer bonds with your family. The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.

Would you START by taking a step to forge stronger relationships at home?

The Family Member I Struggle With Most

As part of Focus on the Family Singapore’s Bigger, Deeper, Stronger narrative videos, four young people share vulnerably about their journeys with the family member they struggle most with.

May it encourage you to take a bold step to articulate your thoughts and perhaps take active steps to mend relationships too!

Be encouraged by these real and honest stories of youth who have taken the first step for Family!
